Behind the Sausage Tent / CSI Cyclocross Weekend

I really couldn’t thank everyone enough for all the support that I received this weekend. From my volunteers cooking and serving sausages all day, to the supporters yelling for me during my races. This weekend was the best weekend of cyclocross racing this year.

If you didn’t know I was running a sausage tent, then you were really missing out. It was such a huge success! I sold about 280 sausages the first day and about 80 grilled cheese sandwiches. The second day I had to get some more sausages because they were selling a lot better than I had anticipated. I don’t have the exact figure but im pretty sure we sold about 550-600 sausages this weekend. That’s A LOT of sausage!

On top of having such a successful fundraiser, I was able to pull off the best result of my career at Saturdays race with 4th place. I finally settled down a bit and didn’t go out as hard as I normally do, and this turned out to be exactly what i needed. I had a lot left in the tank with 3 laps to go and attacked the group I was in with Lindine, Jerome, and Myerson and got a gap and came SO close to bridging up to the leaders on the last lap but rolled in for 4th right behind them.

The second day of the race didn’t go as well, but after such a long weekend of cooking sausages and being at the race venue really early to set my fundraiser tent up, I knew that Sunday would be a little bit more difficult for me. I had good legs early on in the race, but I went a little to deep in the first two laps and lacked the top end that I needed to punch it out of every corner for the rest of the race. But after such a successful weekend I really could not be happier.

I set a goal to sell all 400 sausages that I bought for the weekend. Well i crushed that goal after we sold about 300 on the first day, and I had my Dad run out and get about 200 more sausages to be ready for the next day. Then we sold out of everything right before the start of the mens UCI race at 3:00pm.

Thank you to everyone who helped out in any way this weekend. My team, JAM Fund / NCC, helped out so much with volunteering and supporting my fundraiser! Huge thanks go out to Adam Myerson, Alec Donahue, and JD Bilodeau for putting on the best UCI cross race of the season. And for letting me sell my sausages at your event! And the biggest thank you goes out to my Dad who worked his ass off to get me all this food in an organized manner! He crushed it for me this weekend!

I got called a jerk in a couple of my Cyclingdirt.org interviews. Just gotta say, that’s not very nice man! Im definitely not a jerk!

So a very successful weekend of racing and fundraising. One of my goals of the season was to beat Justin Lindine. I know its a weird goal and you shouldn’t set goals based on other individuals, but that guy is so fast and I just wanted to take him down at least once this season! So mission accomplished on that one!
